SUITE -- The Night
i. Twilight
Time appr. 2:45
I see the last glimpse of light
fading
I see the world I thought I knew
fading

I try to hold onto the sun
But I don't know how
I try to live in the light
But all I can do
Is watch it die

I feel the judge in my head
condemn
I hear the man in the moon
howling

I try to give up all I have
To lift the night
I mix up what is I
And what is Thou
So I watch it die
ii. Dead Already
Time appr. 5:00
Grinding bones against the hard steel chains
Blinding malice rears up against the reins

'Cause we're all dead, dead already
Skeletal remains
Suicide sideshow
Yesterday's hero
Monument of mortal pains

There an angel made of glass
Midst the endless funeral mass
And the candle's frozen flame
Trapped inside the painting's frame

Aching hearts, rheumatic trembling hands
Broken dreams, and empty flaccid glands

'Cause we're all dead, dead already
Yesterday's champagne
Last burning embers
Frozen Decembers
Golden Empires on the wane

I wander the aisles of
The crystalline church of the past
Mindless monks chanting
The meaningless words of the mass
Was the world outside a dream
Or was it memory
Sunlight streams in but I fear
I can never be free

Ne new sins, new virtues, nor new prayers
Cold call salesmen hawking last year's wares

'Cause we're all dead, dead already
Sacred and profane
Bartender's last call
Humpty in free fall
Doctrines of the safe and sane
iii. Mad Kali
Time appr. 8:50
She didn't live long enough
To be horrified by what had happened
Orgasm of death took hold
Hands twitched and writhed for her new lover
And then she was no more

The child in the back seat
Cried helpless tears but no one heard her
After three days of numbing madness
Relentless thirst and gnawing hunger
A face peered through the door

Life-flight angel carried her in
Gossamer gowns of starched white linens
Mahadevi medicine
Can't quite cure mad Kali's victim

Many years and many miles
She still screams at night
But can't remember
How many men have tried to love her
but she slides away, a helpless infant
Down that desolate ravine
iv. This Maze
Time appr. 5:50
The depths of this maze
No signposts to guide me
The minotaur comes
There's nowhere to hide me

The depths of this maze
Angles and dead ends
My jailor displays
False prophets and dead friends

Trapped in Law and Order reruns
Praying justice will be done
Hang the jury and the judge
And the victim for his grudge
And to each trapped in his role
And each bifurcated soul
Each duplicity unveiled
Ambiguity impaled

The depths of this maze
Broken delusions
Prismatic displays
Of endless confusions

The depths of this maze

A corpse's hard gaze
v. Dawn
Time appr. 5:40
I remember the dawn
Red sun rising
Painting the sky
With the fresh blood of innocence

I remember the hope
New day's promise
For a future, bright future
When I break the chains of ignorance

What is old is not made new again
What is old is not made anew

Spark in the loins
Cracks in the crust of the dying
Scream in the night
Giving birth to virgin territory

I will crack that hard shell
Dusty carker
Leaving the lie
And my vain thoughts of emminence

What is old can be made new again
What is old is remade anew

The Mists of Morning
Time appr. 5:40
The mists of morning held us close at hand
There were no tomorrows, no sorrows, no distant lands
And as we crawled, we crawled our way
Into the day
And come what may

The mists of morning gave way to noonday sun
We looked to the mountains, to the gains that could be won

For time was still on our side

And now our shadows stretch towards the lost dawn
Mourning lost tomorrows
Our sorrows soon to be gone
For with the sun
Too fades the night
The wrong and right
So come what might

The mists of morning at twilight descend again
We look to our maker past the wiles and whims of men

For time cannot be denied

Universal Translator
Time appr. 3:40
And I'm an alien
I talk in squeaks and chirps
And you're an alien
Mile a minute words

We need a Universal Translator

You're a flower blooming
Under the sea
And I'm a flower blooming
In colors you can't see

We need a Universal Translator

Time to admit it now
I thought we'd learn somehow

And though I feel your breath
We're galaxies apart
And though I see your words
I can't hear your heart

We need a Universal Translator
